Help? How can I make my makeup last in the heat?
The gorgeous warm weather seems to have abandoned the UK the last few days, but it will soon be back and, when it does appear, these top tips for long-lasting makeup will hopefully help.
As well as remaining flawless and shine-free, we all want to know that once make-up has been applied on long summer days, it will stay put and withstand the sweltering heat. There’s glowing and then there’s looking sweaty!
The key to perfect, year round make-up application is always skin preparation. Ensure your skin is free from any dry patches or dehydration. Use a gentle exfoliator one to two times a week and Hyaluronic Acid on a daily basis to hydrate and lock moisture in. Dermaplaning is an extremely popular method of exfoliation and will not only remove the top layer of dead skin cells, but will also remove the fine, vellus hair, also known not as ‘peach fuzz’ that is often more highlighted on sunnier days when wearing make-up. Always seek a professional to carry out your Dermaplaning treatment and avoid any home-use tools.
Begin your make-up application with a high factor SPF. This is important all year round, but especially so in the summer to protect from the strong UV rays. A good facial SPF is Tropic’s Sun Day UV facial defence. This is extremely lightweight and melts into the skin. It can be worn alone or as a primer and gives make-up something to adhere to. As well as knowing your skin is protected, make-up will sit more smoothly and evenly.
Stick with lightweight, sheer products that you can layer if necessary. If you can’t bear to go bare faced, tinted moisturisers and BB creams are perfect for the summer rather than liquid foundations. These lighter products will sit beautifully on the skin, giving a gorgeous dewy finish without the risk of going cakey in the heat. Apply your base using a Kabuki brush as it will help it last much longer and you can really work and buff the product into your skin, rather than it sitting on your face.
Powder formulas are more prone to streaking in hot weather, so opt for cream products. They are perfect for the summer as they are lightweight, melt into the skin and give a glow in the right place. They can also be a great multi-tasking product and blushers especially can double up as a lip tint also.
Waterproof mascara and a gel eye liner are perfect for ‘no panda’ eyes!
Lock everything in place on your face with a setting spray. These fab fixer products are made up of three ingredients – water, alcohol and film formers, which work together to form a barrier to keep your make-up in place. My personal favourite is Urban Decay’s All Nighter. I’ve been using this for many years on my brides and it keeps make-up held in place for 16+ hours, through the nervous sweats, tears, laughter and dancing!
There’s no need to replace everything in your make-up bag. Summer beauty is all about looking fresh, glowing and effortless!
