Here’s looking at you…

Holi-yay season is here!

Sun, sand, sea and relaxation! Just what we all need after the last 16 months. Time to spend with our family and friends, away from the monotony of work and routine. I’ve just returned from the most amazing week away and definitely appreciated it more than ever before. I didn’t want to risk going abroad, so instead we went to one of my most favourite places – Center Parcs. I love the peacefulness, being in nature and most of all, no traffic!

Being an active, outdoors family, this holiday is perfect for us and we luckily have two different Center Parcs locations only approximately 1.5 hours away from our home.

For those looking to travel abroad, the sun, sea and over indulgence may start to affect your skin and how you feel overall. It’s great to unwind and switch off, but sometimes it’s best to keep a few routines in place whilst you’re away. One of which is your skincare and water intake.

If you’re travelling by plane, keep make-up free and apply moisturiser before you board. This will sink in during the flight and keep your skin hydrated. Also apply a nourishing lip balm as wearing a face mask during the flight may cause your lips to become dry and chapped.

Boost your skins radiance with Vitamin C. Start this daily routine prior to your holiday. It’s a fantastic product for rejuvenating dull and fatigued skin and will also protect your skin from free radicals and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

Give your skin a detox in the day from make-up. Wear a high factor SPF that is water resistant and apply regularly throughout the day. If you don’t feel comfortable being completely bare faced, Tropic have an amazing tinted SPF50 facial UV defence. It gives your skin a hint of colour, evens out skin tone and conceals imperfections, whilst giving your skin a lovely glow.

With the more regular and frequent application of SPF, skin needs to be cleansed every morning with a double cleanse at night to remove make-up, dirt, impurities and sunscreen.

I always recommend using Hyaluronic Acid every day to lock in moisture and I would definitely advise the use of this whilst abroad. It will help to keep your skin hydrated and plump and will also attract moisture from the air.

Moisturise the skin on your face and body regularly and use a deep hydration mask overnight, a couple of times a week, to further boost your skins moisture levels.

Apply a face oil at night after moisturising. This will help your skin from drying out and work overnight to hydrate your skin whilst you sleep.

Exfoliate your face and body (with separate products) 1-2 times a week to rid the skin of dead cells and help moisturiser soak into the skin. Get into this habit at home before you go away and you’ll notice a big difference with the texture of your skin. You can even sit in the water and gently massage your legs with the sand. This will help to not only rid your skin of dry, dead cells, but will help to break up toxins and improve lymphatic drainage.

Holidays are the perfect excuse to indulge in a couple of extra cocktails, but alcohol can take it’s toll on the appearance of your skin. Be sure to drink water in between glasses of wine or cocktails in order to stay hydrated. Make sure you are drinking at least three litres of water a day to flush out toxins.

Furthermore, if you are feeling sluggish with your stomach being a little unsettled from overindulgence of rich food, drinking water will help.

Next week I’ll be talking about how to pack light, but right for your holiday by streamlining your skincare and make-up!
