As many of us are not going to be going abroad this summer, we thought we’d share some posts from Jo Wheatley (with permission) so at least we can enjoy the hidden delights of Portugal, even if only vicariously!
No wobbles this week.
The swimming Pool has now been used three times.
Some new rules have come into place. Restaurants on a weekend now need double vaccines or pcr or antigen tests for inside eating ! But outside dining is restriction free. Which is better than the past couple of weekends. When they had to close inside and out at 3:30!
Mask wearing is very much still common place here, even outside!
The heat has been a little bit of an issue with the pooches, cool jackets are coming into their own. Thankfully our house stays wonderfully cool inside even when temps are reaching high 90’s outside.
I made another new friend this week, Viv asked me if I was from Essex (which devastated me, I hate that I can be picked out for my voice 😫😂) when we were queuing up at the local butchers counter! Anyway I didn’t hold it against her and when she suggested we meet up for coffee, I was delighted, and the cherry on the cake is her gorgeous pooch Max, so O&O have two fab friends now in their pooch gang.
Thursday we went to #Belem and had fish and chips from the The Lisbon Chippy. We sat on the front eating our take away fish & chips watching the sail boats go by, it was such a lovely evening. I was really sad to hear that the Chippy is closing down at the end of the month. But in these times I don’t know how anyone is managing to stay a float!
Saturday we explored the Graça area, it’s such a quirky area, full of life. We will definitely be back there. Saturday evening we drove to the marina with the pooches and ate at the Italian there. The pasta was nice, the staff were really welcoming of O&O and even encouraged them to sit on the chairs, so we will definitely go back. It’s a lovely setting looking over the marina, with all the boats bobbing up and down.
Sunday was a very early dog walk, on the beach, before the sun came out, we now frequent a little coffee shop most mornings along with Adriana and Chica on week days, and my two pulled me all the way there from the beach, because they know they get treated to a cake, and a big fuss from the lovely staff.
Obviously Sunday night was watching the footie!
Another fab find, Spot is located in @hotel_fortaleza_do_guincho with amazing views from the terrace and the most delicious #Lobsterpasta I’d highly recommend this place. It is slightly pricey but most hotel restaurants are. #Guincho #lisbon #expat #sundaylunch
We shared choco Fritos to start (#cuttlefish)
I had lobster pasta for my main🦞
Then we shared the #scones with our coffee, which were made to order. All washed down with a glass of Portuguese sparkling Rose (have you tried Portuguese wine? It’s fab)
Guincho is an area of #outstandingnaturalbeauty and if you have time definitely worth a visit, even if it’s on your way through from or to #sintra
Tuesday evening we tried the delicious @anossacasa.restaurante this small family run restaurant is a real delight, every single dish was spectacular, the service is tremendous, and the price even better. This place is fab, if you’re in Lisbon I’d highly recommend giving these guys a try, it’s a tiny restaurant with only 22 covers so please do book to avoid disappointment, while we sat there, they must have turned away at least 20 people. The food is a tapas premise, of a Brazilian and Portuguese blend. We had prawns on a peanut salad, pig check tacos and a steak dish, followed by a chocolate and coconut torte and a delicious cheesecake, even the coffee was delicious. #expat #lisbon#foodiesofinstagram #Lisbonfoodie
The weeks are flying by now!
So what do I have to tell you about this week?
Firstly, if you’re thinking of moving always try and make sure you don’t chose a home to move into that’s between two homes that need renovation 🤦🏻♀️ I feel like I’m the filling of a drilling sandwich atm!!
One set of neighbours who are totally fab, have been completely transparent with all that’s going on, giving us a timeline, they have done everything they can to make the process as painless as possible, it’s still noisy but most days it’s tolerable, but then Monday of last week the other side started work without warning, oh my!! The walls on our house literally felt like they were about to fall in! So much so the need to escape everyday day was immense! I understand people have to renovate I really do, but I’m not sure I’d have chosen to live through it if I’d known! But in fairness to us, neither house was even for sale when we viewed this house, both had been family homes for decades!
Anyway enough about that, we went up to #praiadaMacas this week, it was fab, lots of gorgeous little seafood restaurants along the front, and it has a real old fashioned seaside feeling about it.
We also tried the chinese restaurant in the Estoril casino, it has spectacular views over the casino gardens, the food is rather retro!
The star of the week was @anossacasa.restaurante definitely give these a try if you’re in Lisbon.
Saturday evening we walked into town and after dinner walked up to the old part of town and stubbled on this street, I can’t wait to book dinner here one evening this week.
It almost felt like pre-c times with all of the people sitting in close proximity and laughter wafting through the air!
Anyway as always if you enjoy these posts please do interact. As long as you guys do I’ll keep posting. 💙💙💙 #expat #cascais #lisbon #retirement #thisiswhat50lookslike
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! How about an old bird to ride a scooter!! If there’s coffee and cake at the end of it you can 🤣
We downloaded the bird app it was such a simple process, scan the QR code and off you go, coffee at @lusophonica was delicious, if you’re in #Cascais it’s the only place to go for fabulous coffee. #expat #scooter#beach #weekend
Thank you @amazinggrazept for a truly fun morning 🛴 ☕️ 🧁 🏝
