Before I go to sleep by SJ Watson

Long story short:

Every time Christine goes to sleep, she wakes up with no memory of who she is or where she is. She relies on one person to fill her in, but can she trust him?

Thoughts:

I was so so excited to read this because it had been so hyped up… and I was so disappointed!

Did I read the same book as everyone else? Because nothing happens in the first 90% of the novel. Literally nothing!!

We love an unreliable narrator, but the execution of it was just boring. It was just so clichéd, and I didn’t like her.

She was just really irritating for some reason? I just wasn’t a fan of the character, and her long-lost friend was so ridiculous ‘darling’!

It started off brilliantly: the concept is original and inventive. But it’s so damn repetitive (like I’ve said already). There’s literally no variation between the chapters, and I’m basically reading the same thing again.

(Do you see what I did there?) That basically mirrors the book.

The ending was great which is why it gets a few marks. I just don’t think it was worth sitting through the entire book to get to that point.

I did read it, and it didn’t take me very long, but I really wish it had been better.

Seriously overhyped book, but if you’ve watched the film, let me know if that’s any better!
